What is Reflexology

Map of reflex points on Hands and Feet

Your hands and feet mimic your whole body expressed in miniature. By working/massaging specific areas on them, we indirectly work on the rest of your body. These points are called the reflex points. Reflexology is a non-intrusive/non-invasive therapy. All clothes are kept on. Only hands and feet are touched.

There are over 7,000 nerve endings in the feet and the whole body can be mapped directly onto them. These reflexes correspond to the organs, glands and all parts of the body (including muscles and tissues). Reflexology stimulates these reflexes to promote a positive change within the body. It is suitable for clients of all ages, from young babies to older and infirm persons, and is used to support everyone from professional sports persons to end-of-life care situations.

The intention of reflexology sessions is to unblock vital energy pathways in the body, while inducing a state of deep relaxation to which can aid healing to all parts of the body, soul and mind, therefore enabling your body to heal itself.

Reflexology is an ancient therapy with roots in Chinese, Indian and Egyptian cultures but was revived and developed in the West in the late 19th century (e.g. the Eunice Ingham). Since that time, those leading the way have identified more detailed reflexes and developed enhanced reflexology techniques. Reflexology is today a mainstream therapy recognised by the NHS and many GPs and hospices in the UK.

The Benefits of Mobile Reflexology

With a mobile holistic therapy, each treatment is geared to your needs. Donna the chief reflexologist at Red Healing Reflexology works on the premise that health disorders are not only brought about by trauma or disease, but may be exacerbated by diet, environment, long-standing or recent emotional issues and stress. The initial free consultation and following therapy sessions allow her to build a picture of your problems and imbalances and to help identify where they might originate and tailor each session accordingly. She believes that reflexology sessions in your own home help reduce the stress of travelling and can be more comfortable in familiar surroundings.
